Anita and I got home to Austin safely after heading out after the awards ceremony. We talked about the weekend the whole way. Our experiences, views and perceptions of the tournament and players, ideas for improvement and observations, my own excitement at playing well and bringing home a trophy ;)
I went into this weekend with little expectation for myself since I'm out of shape and haven't practiced much, but I wanted to soak in as much information as I could and observe, while at the same time maintaining focus in my matches, a big problem of my past. My most important goal was to have fun, show my wonderful woman how professional, serious, and skilled this sport is, and also how fun national tournies are.
All my expectations were exceeded, from the level of play observed, how well the tourney was run, and my deep run into the Pro C bracket for a nice finish.
I have a lot of thoughts to gather about the weekend I want to express, so I'll try to split it up in different posts the next few days.
Suffice it to say for now, it was an incredible weekend, an amazing tournament in every way, and I'm so glad we have this awesome sport of air hockey!

I had a blast, too. Someone may have caught a smile on my face sometime during the weekend.
It was great playing you. I have video of your match with me. It'll take awhile to put all of our videos online (we have over 10 hours, for sure)... but we'll get them online.
Maybe not the video you'd want to see of the entire tourney - but you can study it and watch my tendencies so you can beat me next time.

/quote] Dan you ought to change your picture because I didn't see you without a smile all weekend! Good job to both of you.

Haha! True, I did see Dan with at least a little smile whenever I saw him! Definitely great playing you Dan! You were the wall I always hit in tournies, where I couldn't feel more helpless or unprepared. You're a superbadass. Billy said I didnt play bad, but it felt like I was in slo mo and you knew every move I'd make. I love matches like that though because Its a great growing experience. It'll be very wonderful to see the videos, though not to learn you, but to learn myself. I've never watches myself in videos and I need to. I feel there's so much I need to work on, it'll give me a good starting point I hope. PS-I did watch videos of you a bunch before this weekend, in case we played. Great good it did me!

I think watching videos of yourself as analytically as you would an opponent is a great way to push your game forward. I've had several sets on video where I'm sitting yelling at the screen for what I am doing and shows me what I need to adjust or what I need to not adjust. Dan and I are going to work on editing the videos down and putting them up. One of us will start a new thread when we get to that but as Dan said, we basically set up our cameras on tables 1 and 2 and had them going for a long time. I'd say by the end of this coming weekend videos will start going up.

I did get a chance to watch a little bit of our set. During part of it I watched it at 150% speed, and your drift looked smooth as butter.
I think this was the first tourney I played where I wasn't nervous - and it showed in my defense.

Kevlyn it was an absolute pleasure to meet you and your lady Anita. You two are super nice people and you play a mean game of air hockey. I hope you can make it out to houston for some more local games. I will try and make it out to Austin to see your digs as well. Word :)
