Houston Kicks weeklies start off with a bang (0 comments)
The first weekly tournament at Kicks Indoor was a huge success - hopefully an indicator of things to come at this promising venue. 16 competitors played in the tournament, with a few more coming to show support for the weekly but not participating in the tournament. Travis Luscombe won the tournament, beating Danny Hynes in the finals 7-6, 7-4.
The evening started out with an hour-long practice session, followed by a moving speech by the founder of the USAA, Phil Arnold. The newly-cleaned photon played very fast and held the puck well. The lounging area provided a great place for the players to drink, relax, watch ESPN, and talk, and there was plenty of good live soccer games to watch, as well. To keep the tournament at a decent length of time, the losers' bracket was shortened to one-game matches.
Jason Sherman came in third place, followed by Keith Garcia. Four new players participated in the tournament: Steve Clappart, Ricardo Benitez, Majid Movaghar, and Amir Bushehri. Full results / Points standings
