California State Open only 2 months away (0 comments)
There are only 32 spots available for the Pro Division, the only place where you will get to compete against the top players. We might possibly have 6 of the current top 10 ranked players in the world at this competition.
#1 Danny Hynes #2 Davis Lee #3 Billy Stubbs #8 Mark Nizzi #9 Brian Accrocco #10 Vince Schappell
To secure a spot, please contact Dave Parmley to pay your $25 deposit. Estimating from the inquiries and conversations, there will only be a handful of slots available, so please let us know immediately if you'd like to register.
There will be 4 divisions: Pro, Amateur, Youth and Kids
Entry Fee for the Pro Division is $50. The Pro Division is open to all skill levels, but will be limited to 32 competitors. The first 32 players who pre-register and pay a $25 non-refundable deposit will secure their entry into the Pro Division. Please contact Dave Parmley, Joe Cain or myself to pre-register. All practice and tournament games are included. There will be a catered meal at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, and all participants will receive a CA State Championship T-shirt.
We have not had an official state tournament in quite some time, so we don't have any tradition to follow. I would like to try a slightly modified tournament format if there isn't too much opposition. Here is my proposed format:
Saturday 4 rounds of Swiss, best 3 of 5 matches With 32 players, 8 tables, there should be 5 hours of competition. Be done by 6pm, and players are free to enjoy the evening.
Sunday 10:30am 1 final round of Swiss, best 3 of 5 Seed the top 16 players according to Win-Loss/Opponent's Winning Percentage Play out a SINGLE ELIMINATION 16 person chart - best 4 of 7 matches
17-32 would be seeded and have their own single elimination tournament
With single elimination, we would not be able to derive state rankings from this tournament, so we'd have another tournament later in the year to determine them.
