Hey im trying to get a weekly league started in Long Island. Right now my friend and I meet up at a place in Bellmore to play. We are looking into buying a couple of table and would eventually like to get a monthly tournament going with cash prizes. I know there has to be more freakishly good air players in NY. Please get in touch and lets make this happen!!!!

Michael Rosen is the top player in New York - you should give him a shout at NewYorkAirHockey@aol.com. Welcome to the air hockey family!

I'm also from Long Island and would love to play a bit more often and get started in tourneys (currently a Level 0 player). Michael Rosen does monthly air hockey meet-ups at Manitoba's in the city. I think the next one is 6/13...I'm going to go down for the first time. Good place to start I think and then see what kind of demand there is for some sort of regular tourney or league.

Things are going to start happening on Long Island in the next few months.

I have found a location in Nassau County with an air hockey table and an owner who is overwhelmingly enthusiastic about starting regular meet-ups and local tournaments.

He even voluntarily offered to create space to accomodate three extra tables for hosting larger and possibly sanctioned events.

We need to cultivate something local first....but we're going to make this happen.

Long Island players should get in touch to be kept up-to-date with details.

I also plan on starting a blog on these forums to document the (hopeful) creation of a scene.

Awesome! Point the local players here and the Facebook page and we'll try and help them out with advice and information as much as possible! When you're ready to start local tournaments, let me know and I'll set you up to where you can record results, run tournaments and post results for everyone to see online through the website.

Thanks - I will.

Rosen is going to help with this as well....at least initially. We're going to meet with the owner in the next month or so and work out an initial meet-up type of thing.

Once we have that date, I'm going to create a FB page specifically for Long Island Air Hockey players and go from there.

Maybe in the next couple of years we can create another mecca for air hockey and even have a USAA sanctioned event.....or am I getting ahead of myself here?

I will also be starting a blog on this forum to track the progress of everything....even though I realize the main participants in this forum (and in the major tourneys) aren't from Long Island, might still be an interesting read....at least I'll try to make it that way.

Thanks for the support.

The first meet-up for Long Island Air Hockey will take place Wednesday, November 2nd at 8 p.m. at The Hub Billiard Club, 4060 Austin Blvd., Island Park, NY 11558.

We'll have Michael Rosen there to do a clinic or give some instruction and depending on how many people show up, maybe a little make shift tournament.

The goal is to really develop an air hockey community here.

Looking forward to getting this started.

Please join us on Facebook.

good work gentlemen. i am in doylestown PA. it is only a couple of hours from NYC ... and when you get things going up there i would love to bring a few people to check out the scene and compete. i usually play rosen when he is in atlantic city ... but NYC and long island would be a nice change of scenery. i only know of three playable tables within an hour from where i live. one is private, and one is near downtown philadelphia in university city in a loud atmosphere ... while the other one is actually in NJ.

there is no scene in philadelphia anymore because there are no tables, and the old crowd doesn't seem interested in playing for the most part.

rosen makes things happen like no one else can. welcome to the usaa.

Hey thanks.....definitely looking forward to getting something going & it would be great to have you come out and play (and maybe instruct as well).

I'm expecting that the turnout will be relatively small next week...which is OK as there's only one table where we'll be (although the owner of the club is very enthusiastic and said he could pull in 3 more tables if we were ever able to get enough people interested in a "real" tournament).

Most - including myself - are level 0 players....so having people around like Rosen & yourself when the time comes - would be excellent to help inspire and give guidance.

I really feel that with time & effort - we can make something happen here.

Aside from Rosen, you probably wouldn't find too many players who would be competitive with you....but hopefully - that will change!

I've done a few of Rosen's NYC meet-ups at Manitoba's and he's spoken about you before. We have something in common.....we're both percussionists - although I haven't played formally in some time.

I was a percussion minor at Hofstra University and played in the orchestras and wind ensemble....mostly snare drum/bass drum - but some tympani & mallets as well.

I'm still playing music regularly - but mostly guitar & bass - and not so much drums anymore.....but once in awhile I'll pick up the practice pad & sticks and my old tattered copy of "Stick Control".
