This is a great article that shows that there was excellent ah being played in 1976 in PA. Where were you, Vince, for this event?
Reading it carefully, I can see that Pat and Tom were able to play almost 50 games of ah. That is a huge amount, even for today's standards!!
Several sets had to be won to win the event; so that is pretty advanced too.
Yes, I met both Pat Wolf and Tom Martin. Tom played in our 1978 National. While he was not on the level with Rolf, Mark, Jesse, or Joe or me, Tom was good enough to defeat one of our next level players who was very good, Ed Howel, a strong left hander. I would have picked Pat over Tom Martin by a wider margin. But I never saw Pat play lots of games in a row; so Pat may not have been able to run with Jesse, Joe, Rolf, and the big boys of 1978/79.
This 1976 event seems to have been his finest day, and then I guess he fades away?
Did Jesse, Joe, or Mike ever play him?
