carolina phil said: Well, table number three got Warped over the past few days due to liquid being left on a table cloth that covered the table when it was moved to another area by staff. The five or so warps are near the goal out if front of it about six inches from left to right.
What a ruination.

very sad to hear this ... with all the money SRO makes on air hockey players while not giving back from what i understand, i certainly hope they replace phil's table, that their own employees seem to have neglected proper protection and respect for.
sad ... very sad indeed.

JSB, I'm not sure you are in a position to comment on the mutually beneficial relationship we continue to build with SRO. They most certainly do give back to us and we are very appreciative of their continued support. I'm not sure where you might have heard otherwise. As far as the Table 3 is concerned, SRO and the amusement vendor have jumped right on resolving the issue.

Right. I am meeting them today to go table shopping at their expense.

excellent. it pains me to hear of things like this, especially when it is a personal table. i know the feeling of showing up after a (very) long drive to play some puck ... only to find the table deceased.
andrew ... perhaps you are right, but again it pains me for the sake of air hockey ... to think that such a wonderful thing like what you guys have created out there "could" become tainted over something like this. it is great to hear that they are taking care of it. it seems like it could be a very delicate balance when personal property is at stake. i think we all enjoy reading about the weeklies at SRO because we all likely wish we had a venue like that in our own cities ... much less a player base that has been growing for 25 years or so. in atlanta, we had venues and no players ... in philadelphia we have players and no venues. i have spent hundreds of hours on the phone and zipping around both cities on a motorcycle searching for places, only to end up in my garage in the end. SRO is a great venue and i wish they were in every city.
so yes ... in my opinion, things like this affect air hockey as a whole, not just on the local level. we need new players finding this site reading about the weeklies and how intense they are, otherwise finding a bunch of people talking about air hockey history and theory may be all they find. i'd feel the same way if this happened in colorado, barcelona, chicago, or wherever ... carry on. jsb

Nothing is "tainted" and there is no big issue with personal property. Phil and I both agreed to relinquish the free use of our tables for the sake of planting a new seed in Houston. That table paid for itself 4 times over at Kicks. I'm not interested in profiting off of it... that table is doing exactly what I intended it to do. Thanks for your concern, but there's no use airing your "fears and concerns" when there is nothing at all to substantiate them. Everyone involved in the relationship with SRO is still more than happy with the arrangement.

very good to know. it just seemed like a situation where phil (of all people) and his generosity could result in him being the victim. i remember a few locations that simply didn't care if the table was warped or not, since people would still put quarters in it.

I appreciate your concern. Today, Brian and I went through a warehouse that had about 8 used tables. We saw four that seem to be very good. Next week they will set up the four we liked, and we will make a final selection for SRO. Brian will provide more details on makes and models and condition.

nice to hear. unless he is your spokesman, i have no idea why flanagan chimed in (and don't need to know ...), but your posts quickly summed up my concerns. i am very glad things worked out they way they should.

I can't speak for Andrew, but it can't hurt to be more careful about what we all insinuate about our sponsors and the companies that support us. SRO has been nothing but supportive and open to helping air hockey, so let's not comment on how something "could" be bad unless we actually know for a fact that it's true. I'm not trying to be critical... I'm just saying that we should be careful of what we say.
Back to the topic at hand.. is Tad on the list? I'm sure he'd probably want to play.... or what about the Goof Troop?

JSB, in case it's still unclear to you, I'm a member of the promotional team that organizes air hockey events at SRO. I "chimed in" because you are posting in a public forum information that is completely false by insinuating some sort of strained relationship with our venue. Nothing could be further from the truth. You need to remember that these are publice forums... meaning anyone, anywhere can read the posts.

"insinuating some sort of strained relationship with our venue"
i did no such thing. give me a break and find someone else to argue with (unless this is our new argument thread). you should stick to your disclaimer and stop sending me private messages as well. my comment was quite vague and if i was wrong then who cares ... stop reading so much into it and take a deep breath. i thought phil could get screwed over with the table situation ... nothing more ... all this other stuff is in you head. thank you ... please drive through.

In case you forgot, that's exactly what you said. That definitely insinuates a strained relationship. I'm curious... where did you get your information regarding all the money that SRO makes on air hockey and what they are or aren't giving back?
I'm not arguing with you or anyone else. I'm simply telling you to watch what you say. In fact, perhaps you should stick to what you do best as a USAA officer... just sit there and do nothing.
And yes, the disclaimer still stands. I am in a great mood... smiling from ear to ear as I type this very message.
