I expect the tournament will start around 11-12 pm on Saturday. The schedule won't be done until we get closer. It likely will be a split 128 chart again with top 32 getting a 2-round bye and 33-64 getting a 1-round bye. If you are seeded higher, you have some time before your match will be called.

OK folks: Here is the pricing model. Like last year, we will have 3 periods of registration. Those who pre-register will be rewarded with a lower cost. Those who register late will pay a premium. TAG reserves the right to change the pricing model and/or dates as it deems necessary for the benefit of the event; however, once registered, your cost will be locked in. Thus, if you register as an level 3 and then become a level 4 prior to the World Championships, no additional fee will be required. Thus early registration not only saves you money in the overall fee structure, but could also based on skill.

Pre-registration will run through May 31. Regular registration will run from June 1 - July 8. Late registration will be from July 9 - Date of event. Here are the events are their costs:

OPEN SINGLES ENTRY FEES
USAA Classification Level Early Reg Regular Reg Late Reg
Super Professional 5-6 $125 $175 $200
Professional 4 $85 $110 $125
Expert 3 $55 $65 $75
Amateur 2 $35 $40 $50
Novice 0-1 $20 $25 $30

OPEN DOUBLES ENTRY FEES
USAA Classification Level Early Reg Regular Reg Late Reg
Super Professional 5-6 $30 $40 $50
Professional and below 3-4 $15 $20 $25

AMATEUR DOUBLES ENTRY FEES
USAA Classification Level Early Reg Regular Reg Late Reg
Amateur and below 0-2 $15 $20 $20

Thanks,

Uhh... since there's no USAA classification of "superpro", does that mean Master? Ultrapro? Some combination thereof?

Good question and nice catch of a difference in terminology.

Technically speaking, there no official USAA classifications. The USAA has never actually officially defined classification levels other than a mention in the seeding procedures and word of mouth. As such, we are putting a promotional twist on the naming convention to give the upper players a feeling of being "super"! :)

But yes, to answer your question, super pro is the equivalent of Ultrapro and/or master and/or grand master, whatever we want to call it. Basically those who have been identified as operating at the upper 2 tiers of skill in the sport (TAG classification of 5 and 6).

Can we clarify what doubles tourneys there will be?

On the registration I see:

"The 2010 World Championship Amateur Doubles will be held July 16th at SRO Sports Bar and Cafe. The tournament will be double-elimination, and will be a doubles competition for players with a TAG classification of 3 or lower."

...but what Brian just posted implied there would be 3 doubles tourney split.

So.. will there be three tourney's: Super, Pro, Am... or just Power/Am?

There are two doubles tournaments:
- "Power" Doubles: for experts, pros and "superpros" (with the experts and pros getting a reduced entry fee)
- Amateur Doubles: for amateurs and below

I screwed up on the verbiage for the amateurs doubles event - I will fix that. It should say "2 or lower".

Players, the deadline for the pre-registration rate is one week from expiring. Not sure about you, but I for one don't like to spend more money than I have to (an extra $50 for super pros). And if you know you are coming, sign up. If you have to cancel, we'll give you a full refund up to one week prior. And even then, if it is a family or work emergency, we'll work with you. It happens. We understand. We got jobs and families too.

But the point is - GET SIGNED UP.

AND, btw we are very close to a very exciting announcement about a title sponsor and major sponsor. This year's event will have more tables and money than last year's event. Seriously.

But heh. If you wanna dilly dally and wait until late June to sign up and pay extra to the tournament fund, we got no issue with it. We'd rather have your commitment now so we can proudly add you name to our list of serous commited air-hockey professionals.

Your call. :)

Air-hockey professionals:

The response so far has been great. We appreciate the great response and will extend the opportunity for players to take advantage of the pre-registration rate. Due to May 31 falling on a holiday weekend when many players may have been away from their computers, TAG has decided to extend pre-registration one more week. It will go through this Sunday, June 6. After this Sunday, the full regular registration will kick in, and the regular registration rates posted earlier in the thread will apply.

We'll send a comprehensive list of the players who have taken advantage of pre-registration early next week.

Thanks and get yourself signed up.

GET REGISTERED. SUNDAY IS APPROACHING QUICKLY. IF YOU KNOW YOU WILL COMPETE, THEN WHY DELAY?

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE AS TO WHETHER YOU COMPETE, THEN WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE? THIS IS "THE" WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

WHAT EXCUSE COULD YOU POSSIBLY HAVE? LET ME GUESS --

MY SPOUSE WON'T LET ME.
IT COSTS TOO MUCH TO TRAVEL.
I'M NOT AS GOOD AS THOSE "MASTERS" SO WHY BOTHER?
I DON'T THINK I CAN GET THE DAYS OFF OF WORK.

REALLY? ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO NOT COME TO "THIS" WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP? THE ONE WITH CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP? THE ONE WITH 16 TABLES? THE ONE WITH HUGE CASH PRIZES? ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO MAKE EXCUSES INSTEAD OR MAKING THIS A PRIORITY? YOU GET ONE LIFE. ONE. THE CHOICES WE MAKE DEFINE US.

WHEN YOU ARE READY TO CHECK OUT AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT LIFE, DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE THIS LIFE KNOWING THAT, WHEN IT COUNTED, YOU BEARED DOWN? WHEN THE ODDS WERE AGAINST YOU, YOU FOUND A WAY? WHEN THE GREATEST AIR HOCKEY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF ALL TIME WAS HELD, YOU TOUGHED IT OUT, OVERCAME THE OBSTACLES, AND TOOK YOUR SHOT?

MY COLLEAGUES AND I SPEND HOURS OF OUR LIVES EVERY DAY WORKING TO SUSTAIN AND GROW THIS SPORT. WITHOUT YOU, THERE IS NO REASON. WE NEED YOU. WITHOUT ATHLETIC COMPETITION AND BROTHERHOOD, LIFE IS JUST A BORING PATTERN OF WORK AND MORE WORK. YOU NEED THIS.

HESITATION IS THE ENEMY OF ANY AIR HOCKEY PLAYER. DELAY IS RESERVED FOR THE RELEASE, NOT THE PARTICIPATION.

BE A PART OF THIS. COME! PLAY! CONQUER!
