Ratings are updated. Thanks Goran for entering all of the matches. I'll update the tournament finishes so it is reflected in player profile pages this week.

I'd like to take a moment to thank Cory, Kim, and all of the unsung heroes who helped organize, sponsor, and run the tournament for us this weekend. As a player, it's an amazing luxury to have these events put together and available for us to play in, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in an organized, professional Air Hockey tournament that everyone can be proud of being involved in. With 2 successful State tournaments under their belt, I really hope that the folks behind these events continue the trend!
It's kind of amazing to have been part of a "little" tournament that saw multiple National champions finishing in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place - suffice it to say that cracking the Top 5 in this tournament was going to be a hell of an accomplishment with the amount of talent at the top, which just makes Brian's victory that much more impressive. (Congrats again, Brian!)
I'd also like to tip my mallet to everyone I played, win or lose, for pushing me to the brink and forcing me to play the best I could possibly play from the moment I arrived (which is a whole story unto itself!) until the last point of the final game - there's really just no substitute to being in the moment to get those competitive juices flowing! However, there was a time when my competitive juices flowed a bit too freely, and I would like to apologize for the mallet toss after my loss to Nick... that was entirely uncalled for and very immature of me, and I'm truly sorry if my behavior reflected poorly on the group at large. That's part of me has been under control for a long time, and I promise to regain that control and keep it from happening again.
Again, my thanks to everyone who made it out for being there and making the tournament what it was with your presence. I hope to see you all in Colorado in August!

Brian Accrocco was truly great in achieving a breakthrough and winning his first major tournament. He was consistent and powerful, hitting tremendous overs as well as unders. It's inspiring to see someone playing hard for 20+ years and finally winning a Major, especially at his advanced age.
And Brian had to go through the 3 most recent World Champions to win it all - no easy task. Funny because Brian has always talked about us playing in a big tournament - we haven't played each other in this millenium at least - and had I been able to get past Pete Lippincott, Brian would have had the chance to take down all 4 Champions at the tournament.
Another positive at this tournament was something like 6 females competing. Hearkens back to the 80's when we had a strong group of women players. We need to reverse the downward trend and get more girls and women playing AH!

I actually thanked Brian for doing just that - giving the over-40 crowd something to be excited about! Does this make Brian officially the oldest winner of a major tournament in AH history? If he isn't, who is?

Guess it depends on what constitutes a Major. :) In 1998, I believe it was, I beat Mike O. in the finals to win the IL State. I was 47 at the time. Theon organized the tournament, there were Pro-level players there, but neither Billy not Wil Upchurch were in Chicago at the time.

Congrats to Brian for his victory. It was really deserved: unbeated, facing all the best players in the tournament.
I think i asked some years ago who was the oldest and the youngest national champion ever. Maybe and probably Tim was the younger, but who was the oldest? Danny was 37 or 38 last year!! Maybe Bob?
If things do not change soon, the oldest champion will be beated soon anyway. Brian have 41? I expect to be competitive in 4 years yet!

Bob Dubuisson used to be the oldest (35 years, 7 months) but that record has been broken and basically a new record is set every Nationals these days. :) I can't keep track of all the ages but the oldest would be Danny or Billy.

Sorry for the delay in my response. Grad school.
Thanks to everybody for the many kudos. It was as big a surprise to me as it was to everybody else. I had fun helping Cory run the event and also playing some amazing players (and finally figuring out how to beat them).
The California players in San Diego are a great group of people. Everybody there is very nice and accommodating. The weather is amazing. The beach is like a piece of heaven. Looking forward to returning next year to defend my title.
Thanks to Cory, Kim, and everybody who gave of their time, talent, and treasure so that we could all come and play air hockey and celebrate the freedom and opportunity afforded to us as Americans!
Brian
