Donovan defends his world ranking against an energetic aggressive Frank Perez, four sets to zero, sixteen games to seven. By the end of the second set, Donovan had figured out how to score on Frank with some nice cuts from the left of center plus left wall unders, with cross straights and rw overs thrown in. Donovan's defense captured the puck at the center line time and again, allowing him four shots to Frank's one. But Frank was game to the end, firing the hardest power serve forehands and one twos that are done. Using he original style of speed ah but with some modern off goals thrown in, Franks made the last set compeititive at 4 to 3.
Very entertaining match with both players demonstrating improvement since the World in July in Houston last year.
