Trying to get a good feel about when everyone would like to play in the Texas State Air Hockey Tournament. Please put your thoughts in this thread good or bad. Remember we do everything bigger here in Texas! Thanks in advance for your input.

Late January on the week off between the Super Bowl and AFC championships is one suggestion

I like that date. But, I will play it any time the Table is Set.

I have won 4 Texas States and 6 Houston Cities, so bring me one more, por favor!

Ha-ha, Billy used to be a Southerner but now he's spoiled by Chicago weather. :)

When you are Number One, you have the right to control the weather.

I'm thinking January may be a good month for it. Let me check with our team here and see what we have in the way of leverage to bring in some more tables for the hypothetical event.

Actually, host it on like Aug 15 during a Texas heat wave and then maybe we will have a shot at beating Billy.

After the Super Bowl, February 1, there is often "space" to hold an event in February; rather than during the bowl and playoff January games.

Will the tournament be streamed online?

I won't be making it, but I'd love to watch.

Should be a great competition. Lots of up and coming mid range talent locally will get to cut their teeth on a REgional Event with all the intensity that they have never seen before.

By the way, Mark Robbins is playing well; in practice he had lots of power and energy; like the mid 80's. I mean like he played in the mid 80's; not age.

Wow - that is an interesting Top 12, indeed! I look forward to seeing more posts from the players involved and learning how some of these finishes were achieved.

Major congrats to Colin for bagging a Texas State!

The event kept everyone very busy all weekend, plus the three pre tourney competitions.

Congrats to Colin for winning! Anthony Marino taking second with no practice, amazing. Brian and Pete playing powerfully.

Avery Who? and Jeremy Who? Yes, they were suprises that brought unexpected pain to their defeated opponents! Better learn their full names and add "Mr."

Channel 39 did a short piece on Sunday:

To give you my perspective on Colin's performance as I am certain he won't post anything on this site. This was Colin's first Major Championship. 90% or more of us will never know what it feels like to catch fire in a large event and he handled it so well. He came into the final match after beating Pete and Anthony feeling relaxed But extremely nervous. He said his stomach had major butterflies. He played too relaxed in the first set against Anthony in the final match. On the other hand Anthony played like an experienced champion the first set winning 4-0.

During the break Colin told me that he didn't feel 'it''. I said to him that he is playing a champion and if he plans to win he better find 'it' fast. Colin is very introspective and I could tell he was searching deep inside to find that passion and energy to carry him home. In the final set he played the first game hard and Anthony won 7-6. His emotions were starting to show but he is not the 12 year old Colin but the 15 (near 16) year old and he was able to convert that energy and he caught fire. After being up 2-1 in game 2, Colin called timeout. Not a traditional decision, but I could tell that something clicked inside and ''IT" was found.

Colin played the best air hockey I had ever seen him play and he got to that adrenaline high like no one I've seen before. He grabbed everything Anthony shot, he struck fore hands into the Anthony's left with pinpoint accuracy, he finally started shooting left wall unders and he was on fire. Did you see that was a phrase used over and over. As you can tell I am a very proud father of both of my boys. My comments are very biased but this is how I saw it. Colin's Dad.

I heard that Colin told Avery afterward that he was drawing inspiration on the match the two of them had a few years back. Sometimes, the fire in the belly is lit by recalling the frustrations of past matches and then finding the determination to avoid that from happening again.

This more mature Colin was able to use his experiences to get "It" when it counted.

Well done.

It will benefit him not just in AH but in life.

Texas has a new Champion. The challenge is now on the Table for the rest of the community to raise the level if it hopes to compete.

Take care...

Tim

Thanks Mike for one of the most insightful posts ever describing what it was like for the winner of a major tournament to experience the ups and downs and drama of the glorious ordeal.
