Who doesn't like to travel for air hockey? Dan and I came up with an idea to try and get more people traveling so we are happy to put forward the Land of Lincoln Doubles Challenge.

Details:
- Play us a full doubles match against us. (2/3 sets, each set 3/5 games)
- Play us a singles challenge match (1 person plays Dan, other plays Q). Each player must be active status in the current ratings at the time of the matches.
- Win $200 for your team if you win the doubles match regardless of the singles challenge match outcomes

This challenge does not apply if Billy Stubbs is on your team.

Message me and/or Dan to coordinate.

This is a awesome idea guys! Since the Carter cup is MIA maybe call it the "Lincoln Cup!"
Just a thought ;)

Pete,

The Carter Cup was finally returned so I actually have it now. I welcome two teams stepping forward to challenge for it.

Take care...

Tim

We had some really great Carter Cup Style matches in Illinois. One was a tie breaker after 5 1/2 hours of play. The Juggernaut rolled breaking the tie. It would be nice to see another 8 manned event like that within Illinois.

Danny and I have talked about doing some differet events in Houston in the Feb/March timeframe to honor the 10 years since Owen left us. Having a CC match at this memorial event is something we are going to look at for sure. The chicago team of Billy, LoL (Q and Dan), and Goran would be a perfect team to compete for the re-awarding of the cup.

Goran lives in Phoenix now, but he's always a Chicagoan to me. I'd love to play on a Chicago Carter Cup team. @Don, any idea of other events at the memorial?

Regarding the challenge by Q and Dan, I'll add $100 to the pot to make it $300 total.

If I make the same offer for 300 to you, Q and Dan, to be played in Houston at your convenience, would you accept it?

You would play ME and a team mate of my choice.

The Doubles would be for the 200, and each singles would be for 50.

You would risk nothing but your 3 R's: Ranking, Rating, and Reputation.

Oh, so you can sleep better, I meant to add that I would not pick as my doubles partner either Danny or Ehab.

How's that?

Phil

Well, since I won't deliver either the Fireman or the Magician to you, I will boost the challenge match bounty to 100 each.

Making the total for the Doubles and the Challenge Matches 400 total.

I would be happy to travel to Chicago and do what I do best to both of you there. But, I don't have a committed doubles partner who will devote the time and money for such a venture.

We shall see how to find a way for your rendezvous with destiny.

Phil, you better find a good partner, and carry a big axe if you're going to take down the Land of Lincoln Logs. Their game is, shall we say.... Cherry, and they've really been laying the wood to their opponents as of late. I recommend inviting someone with you who has had success against them and is no stranger to travel... rare breed i know, but I'd say Davis is your best shot.

If I could get away to go there, I would choose YOU, Mark Nizzi! Together we would Witness their demise. We would probably win the doubles 2 to 1; then you would beat Q and I would revenge against Dan in match play.

But, it would be Winter before I was able to make this dream a stone cold reality.

Is this still active? I'd be down to travel from New York if someone wants to team up with me. I know Dan might want revenge for that last match we had in Denver hah. I was MIA for a while because of an injury, but I'm ok to play now

Also, difficult to arrange a team for New York so far, but I'd be willing to join another if someone will have me. Carter Cup seems fun

Still active. Sounded like Phil may have been interested to travel to the Land of Lincoln at one point? Be fun to have a Q-Phil, Dan-Justin revenge matches on top of all of the doubles enjoyment. Let us know!

Glad to hear the injury is better!

would the doubles challenge actually be for the top spot or is there not a specific ranking system in place for that?

There is not a doubles ranking system in place. Maybe there was at some point? This is just trying to get some people traveling, maybe thinking about doubles a bit outside of a nationals, and to put some $ down to have something to play for. One of the things on my eventual to-do list is try to better document doubles chammps / top 3 finishes where I can find data. Digging around the stuff here, I could find a couple of tournaments in the list, but not too many.
