United Airhockey Prmotions LLC (UNAP) has signed a contract with Skybox Sport Bar in Houston, Texas to host weekly Airhockey tournaments. The opportunity was discovered by Mark Waheed last summer and took nearly a year to develop. Thanks to Mark Waheed and Mike Cummings for their help in making this happen.
UNAP is in the final stages of completing its inventory acquisition and official state and city licensing after which the events will begin. We are targeting mid to late June for start-up.
We are also trying to decide which night(s) we will hold weekly events. The top 2 candidates are Thursday and Friday nights. UNAP will be querying local players for additional information about availability on those nights.
Skybox is located at Westheimer and Hayes street. Please feel free to stop in and see it for yourself.
As we finalize the details of opening night and the selected day(s) for weekly events, more information will be posted.

Excellent to find a home for AH again. It will be the perfect place for Matches on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. No one there, big place to ourselves. Close to Beltway 8 and West Park Toll Way coming from downtown.

Plenty of hotels., restaurants and entertainment within walking distance or short drive for the out of town players and families. All price ranges for hotels. Even a Waffle house within a block for you all night airhockey hounds.

I'm a night hound, but I want to keep playing AH and not die of a heart attack, so I'll skip the Waffle House.

Reminder that Skybox will official launch this Friday, June 20. There are 4 well-conditioned tables set up and ready. Feel free to go in ahead of time and check it out.
I have also created a tournament chart for it. If you know you plan to play, please sign yourself up. Entry fee for this event will be $10. Games are set at $0.75 each.
When you go into Skybox, walk to the back. There are 3 rooms at the back. 3 tables are in the room to the right and 1 table on the left room. The center room has dart boards.
See y'all on Friday.

Count me in for Friday night. I went by there tonight, Monday, and it was very quiet--good for AH practice. So I stayed three hours practicing by myself. Did not lose a game.

For four and a half years, Houston Airhockey thrived at SRO. With 4 Airhockey tables, plenty of space, great food, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages and lots of players, we hosted more than 220 weekly tournaments, the 4 greatest World Championships the world has even knows, and a handful of other major events. But as the move The Matrix said so truthfully, "Everything that has a beginning, must have an end." In February of last year, with only 1 day of notice, SRO closed its doors and went out of business. The community was devastated. Our perfect environment - gone - just like that and not a thing we could do about it!
Andrew Flanagan immediately got the ball rolling and got us into Speedys. Speedys had been around for years and had hosted events back in the late 80s and early 90s. But it just wasn't the same. Sure they have Airhockey tables. But there's hardly any seating. No alcohol. Kids everywhere. Poor lighting. $1 per game. It worked, but it has been anything less than ideal.
Well, I am pleased to announce that a new home has been found. And I kid you not, it is BETTER than SRO. It is newer, cleaner, just as spacious, and we have 4 tables that are owned and managed by UNAP. The owner has been super supportive and very accommodating. They have awesome food (including crawfish), the cleanest and most luxurious bathrooms I have ever seen in a bar, and the airhockey environment - well you have to see it for yourself.
Tonight we have our Grand Opening event. We are capping the participation at 40, and I suspect we'll hit that cap. Everybody in Houston is coming - some to play - some to watch - some to say they will watch but you and I both know that when the tables calls, none can resist!
Also tonight UNAP will launch a new Airhockey brand that we think will lead to greater world recognition and growth of our community. Come out to the event to see the new brand!
See you tonight Houstonians and any of you foreigners from Austin or Dallas if you have the inclination to make the drive.

Airhockey with the standards we grew to expect at SRO have been buried by Skybox. The AH rooms helped to keep the noise level down, the lighting was very good, the food is as good as SRO and it was very satisfying to be king of the hill at the first Skybox weekly with 38 players. Some of us have known for the last many months that Skybox has the potential to be a great venue. It is very cool to see the Houston airhockey group back on track.
