Hi, everyone!
It is a long time since I represented Russia in a World Championship in Houston in 2010. Since then we had three years of training and preparing ourselves to come back to US (though results of our weeklies are not published here). World Championship in Denver is the next chance to take part. We feel that our skills are much better now including accuracy, defence, possession and strategy. However, it is quite difficult to understand your skill level by watching video. We need someone to test us and rate among other players.
I would like to invite everyone to take part in an air hockey tournament in Moscow. We do not have fixed dates as we want to be flexible for any proposals. We could organize a high profile local tournament within one month before your arrival. I guarantee the interest from all top russian players and preparation for the event. The idea is to play a lot of games with top russian players (official tournament) and rate us.
We do not have a sponsorship for the event. However, we can offer help in organization the trip, offer accommodation, transfer you to and from the airport, show you the city and provide other activities. Some of us could offer you a bet like if you win a set you get 100$ otherwise you do not get anything.
I understand that it is a long way to go and it is not a trip for a weekend. But that could be a great vacation or it could be acceptable to have several extra days in Moscow if you plan to go somewhere to Europe.
Hope to meet you soon. My mail: vadimchi@gmail.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/#!/vadim.chizhevskiy

Do you think anyone from Russia will be able to make the Denver Worlds? If there is anything I can do to help make that happen let me know!

Greetings Vadim and Russian AH Warriors,
That is a great idea. I look forward to visiting and playing AH at some time in the future. I am not able to travel this year; but before long I would like to visit Russia.
Meanwhile, keep up your devotion to the Table, and please consider attending the World Tournament in Denver.
Best Regards,
Phil Arnold Founder USAA

Cristopher, Phil,
Maybe I will go to Denver. But I will make final decision not earlier June. To be prepared for such option I'm changing my travel passport and then I will apply for US visa.
Some other players (2-3) are considering the trip. But they are concerned with the uncertainty on the place they could finish. In such circumstances they prefer to wait for the next year since they can not afford such trip every year. If they could play someone strong to proove their progress and ambitions then they could get the incentive to go.

I can understand that. I will say that the best way to get better though is to compete in tournaments like these so you can face several different top players. Even if you get one or two people to come out there to play you guys, it only really shows how well you play against those specific players.

We had several private discussions with the venezualians and some american players and determined the dates convenient for all potential participants (3 players) - June 17-June 22.
Though we still have no confirmed players and, thus, the dates still could be changed, I decided to post the dates here. Maybe someone else could find them suitable.
I think we will have more information next week as the guys need time to consider all the pros and cons.

I'm glad to announce that a new high-profiled event is scheduled in Moscow on November 1, 2014 (Saturday). The event's official name is 'Top Non-stop 2014'. We made it possible for all major players from three air hockey cities (Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Perm) to participate on that date. Some of them got the Wild Card and the others will take part in qualification tournament as the number of players is designed to be relatively small to maintain high-quality air hockey at the event. Moreover, we achieved our dream of last years and managed to find a player who was very close to finish in Top-10 at the last World Championship in Denver and who confirmed he will go to Moscow on November 1. Quoting Donovan Brown "it is a 100% trip". We also expect several players from Catalonia to take part but these guys will make decision this week or the next one.
The idea of the tournament is to give the players the opportunity to play as much games as possible with different opponents and find some ways for further improvement. For that purpose we will use Swiss system tournament. A Swiss system tournament is a non-elimination tournament format. So every competitor will play from the beginning till the end - eight sets against eight different players all of which will be hard to beat. The system is close to round-robin tournament but you will not play against all of the players (only 8 players in our case). Competitors are paired based on approximately how well (or poorly) they have performed so far. In the first round, competitors are paired according to Russian internal ranking and based on our expectations for the foreign players. In subsequent rounds, competitors are sorted according to their cumulative scores and are assigned opponents with the same or similar score up to that point. This makes all matches hard and the increases the probability to have a seventh game. And playing eight such sets could be called a marathon.
The number of players will depend on the number of non-Russian players. There are two options - sixteen players or twenty players.
November 1 - November 4 are statutory holidays in Russia. On November 2 we plan to hold a weekly tournament under double elimination format (open for everyone). Unfortunately, Donovan has to go back in the morning and will not take part in the second event.
If anyone is interested to take part or needs some details, please, do not hesitate to contact me.

That was a very hard tournament for all of the participants. We are delighted by our friends from Barcelona and Houston who attended it. They were fighting not only us but also time zones, long flights, Hot Flash tables and General Winter. A lot of matches were tough.
Congratulations to Chelsea for winning despite all this. As for the men's tournament there were some disappointing losses (like 6-7 in 7th game) but you impressed us by your will to win those games. We also saw some different technics in structuring offense and drifts that will be useful for us. Hope to see you at the World Championship next year.
