John Stucky and I played a match earlier today. The results may have been expected based on sets we've played recently. I believe players often fall in to expected patterns of scores when playing the same player often. The winning player has extra confidence and the usually defeated plays with diminished confidence. It takes great effort to turn the tables. Yet I feel these match ups are imperative in helping us reach our full potential, though it is difficult to see results vs. that rival immediately. One player starts to block a shot and adjustments and improvements MUST be made or your done.
In fact John Stucky was by far the most difficult opponent for me in the Colorado weeklies when I started playing competitive air hockey in 1993. I actually became competitive with Keith Fletcher much sooner: and Mr. Air Hockey when he was in town. Stucky's style has remained unique since but for some reason he hasn't ranked as high as I believe he could.
In today's match Stucky was extremely tough in 6-6 games. His shot selection and execution was masterly. I know that type of play will raise his level moving on.

Stuck is a great player.

I remember reffing him vs. Robbins in Vegas... and this was when Mark completely owned me. I don't know how he did it, but it seemed like he knew what Mark was going to do before Mark did... I mean, that is - if Mark ever actually thinks about what he's going to do.

I remember that match - Stucky played great on both offense and defense, and beat me. Stucky's defense was really solid, without the usual mistakes he makes. Unfortunately for him he doesn't reach that level consistently or very often.

While I consciously plan some shots... when I'm really in the zone I leave it to my arm or my intuition to pick the best shot. Hey - if I don't (consciously) know what shot I'm going to shoot - how are YOU gonna figure it out?

I must be really good at reading your arm/intuition, then.
