Congratulations to Brian for winning a hard fought battle against Paulo today 4 sets to 2. It was definitely a great match to watch as both players showed extreme passion and intensity especially for the first 4 sets. Brian then took control in the 5th and 6th sets to take the win.

Paulo is an excellent player - a definite master of the game. He seems to have very successfully merged the attacks of Pedro Otero and Jose Mora. And he does them very well. His defense was very tricky. He continually made adjustments at very strategically advantageous points. The match came down to his swing cut. He won his second set by opening me up with it. I was flinching badly and could not seem to stop. It was when I was able to stop flinching and change my attach strategy that the match turned. He continued to attack with that swing cut as his core. He still made a few, but my ability to stop them and gain possession gave me the pace advantage.

I owe thanks to Danny Hynes and Mike Cummings for some excellent coaching on the pace and strategy to regain control of the match.
