Poll: I've been floating an idea around with some of the air hockey peeps about a rental space dedicated to air hockey in central Houston. I've already inqired about it at the lease level and it is a good rate in a good neighborhood in a decent spot. What I'm asking from the community is if there is interest. Think of it as a like a yoga studio or like ping pong has a space to practice and would have weeklies in this space. Air hockey would keep all the money (minus rent and expenses) and put it towards having a killer world tournament. Please list your thoughts in this thread. Would you have interest in this? Would you be willing to bring your friends to this club house? Let's have a open discussion about this and like I always say, negative thoughts from anyone in this thread will be shot on site with silly string. ~pete

I think the Idea of a clubhouse in Houston is a good idea.
But then what about all the players outside of Houston who aren't able to make it?
But then maybe that's the concept of a AH clubhouse.
I have an Idea as well.
How about if there are several events throughout the year.
And the dates for each event are around the same usually the same every year,
So, the you have let's say 4 state events followed by 2+ nationals every year, and the finals are broadcasted to promote air hockey at another level. I might be saying a lot, but to my perspective, I think it is a great way to ensure that air hockey will survive if there is more exposure of events to the masses of people.
I think there should be many more state/national tournaments, and through this, along with more variety of locations with people saying, "hey, let's get together and play, " If enough people do that all over the country, and start up communities and events, then that alone may ensure AH's survival.
I think also, the fact that tournaments are only held once/twice a year in select locations that are far away for most of the people in this country; That's why locality is key, where people don't have to drive far to play in an air hockey tournament, and since right now, if the tournaments are only held in 3-4 locations, Most people don't hear about it, and then some people just say, "it's just air hockey, why should I spends hundreds of dollars just for air hockey?" I think the choices of our current promoters also made a few mistakes about where and when the tournaments are held, for example, a national event in JULY!,in Houston?! That will draw people away from coming to a Houston event because of the July summer heat.I think Chicago and Boulder/Denver is a great place to have events, But Las Vegas and Houston just are not great places to hold tournaments. People need more exposure to events all around the country, and on the Web, people need to see where and when the tournaments are, and that they are existing and happening. How many people go to www.airhockeyworld.com anyway? the promotion of events needs to be done on websites which millions of people all around the country access every day.
And so with this, this is how air hockey will survive in the future for long term. And when I have the resources, I will do it myself if nobody else will.

Please post your thoughts on this thread.
Thanks, Benjamin.

Great initial post Ben, and Justin! Just looking into ways that we can generate more money for airhockey events. If we can get this together it will be another feather in the hat for airhockey. Right now we are just looking into interest from the group and so far it has been positive. Oh an Tory to answer your question, yes there are plenty of places to eat withing walking distance.
