Just because we aren't having a tournament doesn't mean we can't do anything. Let's plan something else! We could have the triples banquet only bigger, or some sort of fundraiser for tournament 2014. Let's make a new world record, or some sort of new wacky tournament style. It doesn't have to be several days or get other people to fly in from other states. Tho, We could still make a big shindig out of it. It might be a good opportunity for a new venue to see what we're about. I'd prefer something a lot less serious and more fun. Something worth while that we can drag new people too. Something where we can reignite the fires that made us start playing. Air hockey took a big hit this year. We all need to be there for it.

Based on that yes, it would be great to put together an event that is different but it shouldn't be "wacky" though, because then it distracts players from focusing on winning their individual matches. I would like to see more events around the country. There has to be a 2013 worlds though, because USAA states that tournaments should be held at least once a year at the national/world level. -Ben

My guess is, that rule was made just so a champion can't hold on to the title for no reason. But it's already been canceled and there's no way to pull it off. This is a special circumstance. I just think we should make the best of it.

There's no 'rule" that a Nationals must be held every year, but it is a stated pupose of USAA that we always have fulfilled. And we will have a Worlds this year - most likely in Chicago. Dates/venue and other details are being negotiated right now.
Our goal has alway been to have one - and preferably two - National/World level championships each year. Why? Because we live for that! There's nothing better than spending an entire weekend immersed in the world of high-level AH... and making a run at the highest Ranking you can achieve, or even - the World title itself.

Hooray! Double-thumbs up for Chicago. The likeliness that I would be able to make a Chicago World Championship are way higher than Houston. I couldn't agree more on spending a weekend immersed in air hockey; It would just be the best ever. In Houston 2012, which was my first tournament, and it was four days of what was close to AH hockey heaven, if I don't count the frustrations I experienced as well. What kind of events may there be besides the main event tournament?
Keep everyone posted on how things developing tournament-wise if so.-Ben
