This tournament looks like it is going to have great matches. With the effort of Donovan and Rob B. it's looking like footage may end up being streamed. (will post details once live)

I think the match of the round of 16 will be Mark versus Laz. Both have been playing leading into the tournament. I think Mark's experience will give him the edge here. The rest of the round of 16 matches, I have to go with the favorites. Seeds 1-7 all advance.

The round of 8 is where things get interesting.
Brian v Donovan: I think Donovan won a set at the Houston City and he's been having great tournament performances this year. Brian is coming off a challenge match where his game played really clean, sharp..just happened to be against Danny who played at another level. They know each other's games well. Excited for this one.

Syed v Dan (match of the round): Dan has moved up to the 3 seed after his recent match win against Mark. I don't see a problem for him or Syed getting to the round of 8 on the winners side. This is going to be a great match. Syed got the better of Dan at a Vegas nationals but Dan has improved a lot in the past 4 months that I put this match very close. Should go at least 6 games, if not the distance. I'd say Dan in a nail biter.

Pete v. Goran: I think they split sets last IL state. This will be a high octane, fast paced set. Both have been playing/practicing leading up. Pete took Danny to set point either way at Houston City but Goran has been playing Billy well lately. I have to go with Gorans defense giving him the extra possessions needed to win the set. 4-2 Goran

Possible round of 4 matchup I'm most excited to see.

Dan vs. Brian: If this pans out, this is a huge match for Dan. Both players have potent offenses so it's going to come down to possessions. Brian minimized his unforced errors against Danny in their match, but Dan's transition and snagging ability has improved. It may be enough to help tip the scales his way. This is too close for me to call.

This is more picking with my heart than my head, but the predictions aren't going to cost me anything.

I think Billy and Brian are in a level of their own in this tournament and will advance to the finals. Brian is healed, playing solid airhockey and is coming to the tournament to PLAY and not administrate!

My heart prediction comes in at number 3, where I see Syed coming forward after less than impressive finishes at the Houston and the Worlds to make a great showing in Chicago.

My top 10 predictions:
1) Billy
2) Brian
3) Syed
4) Goran
5) Pete
6) Dan
7) Lazaro (another Heart pick!)
8) Donovan
9) Mark
10)Cory

Thx for the heart pick Mike. :)

I saw on FB that Chris Lee might be coming.
If he is then that changes the Laz/Robbins match to Laz/Chris. Another good match.

I am looking forward to playing Dan. His play has definitely improved since the last time we played. I have had 2 bad tournaments in a row, hopefully this will not be a 3rd.

My predictions:

1. Billy - might not lose a game let alone a set.
2. Brian - depending on which Brian shows up, it could be a cake walk to the finals. But he is also capable of being upset by Donovan, Goran, Pete, etc.
3. Pete - somehow finds a way to finish well. His erratic high-speed game takes people off guard in a single set.
4. Dan - coming off a great win over Robbins, I see him continuing to impress.
5. Mark
6. Goran
7/8/9 Chris/Donovan/Laz

I think that the three through six seeds (or even as low as nine) are very close in skill level, so a shuffling of my predictions for those seeds would not surprise me. I hope to see Dan and Goran square-off this tournament. They are playing very well and about close to even. I have predicted Cory to finish 10th. It's about time for a breakout tournament from him.

1. Billy Stubbs
2. Brian Accrocco
3. Pete Lippincott
4/5. Dan Meyer/Goran Mitic
6. Syed Rahman
7. Donovan Brown
8. Mark Robbins
9. Lazaro Garcia
10. Cory Dzbinski

Safe travels. See y'all soon!

Pretty damn good predictions, Billy. Especially Pete. Of course if I hadn't surrendered a possession against him at 6-6 in the 7th, he might have been 7-8. :(

Goran had a great tournament but couldn't get by Pete the second time. And Cory hung in there against Stucky to make 9-12, after Stucky came back from down 3-1 to tie the match at 3-3.

And you accurately picked me and Donovan for 7-8, but didn't take into account that I'd been waiting almost 2 years to get my revenge on him. :)
