Good luck to both fine players. If I were a Vegas oddsmaker, I think the favorite would be Mike since he is in good practice for the past year and has been performing well in weeklies. His game is very balanced with a good mixture of attacks and tough basic defense. His will to win is very strong.
Andrew, too, has a very strong will to win. And has some hard cracking banks that will score on Mike. His defense is good, but with prolonged attacks will open up. And, the lack of consistent play will give the advantage to Mike. Andrew needs to play three times a week for a couple of months, and then the results could be different.
My prediction: the first two sets will be the ones that Andrew will win games in, but sets three and four will go to Mike 8 games to 1.

Thanks. I do feel good about this victory as I knew that when Andrew is on his game, he is very tough to beat. Phil got the results correct, but slightly backwards. I came out strong and won the first 2 sets 8-1 and then the 3rd set 4-1. I was on target and strong and felt like my defense was fast and energized. The 4th set Andrew made a really nice charge and won the first 2 games and I desperately needed to get 'better' focused and not let the momentum go away. We had a great battle and luckily got to the 7th game. I then found my LWU again to start the 7th game and jumped out to a big lead and then finished off the match. I did not want to go any further as Andrew's game was just starting to get on track that last set.
I've finished my challenge match year playing 10 challenge matches and winninng 8. I'm going to have to cut back on challenge matches in 2013 as I start a graduate program in January studying to be a nursing home administrator. It's been a great year of airhockey and I look forward to many future matches.

Great year Mike! Your rating is up to 1749; is that a high-water mark?
You only lost to Albert and Tim, and convincingly beat some very good players along the way.
Best of luck in the graduate program.

Thanks Billy. It is a high water mark. My goal at the beginning of the year was 6 challenge matches, a top 20 finish (oh well)and a rating over 1600. A good year all together.

Excellent defense of your world ranking, Mike. You have developed a very strong ah game, and I can see how your athletic skill in other sports works in ah, too. Good job in that last set by Andrew to take three games and push you hard. I watched that set on the live stream. You refocussed and took care of the task at hand.
