Both of the Weissman boys are under attack from potential usurpers!

Next Sunday, Oct 7, 2012 the following matches will be taking place at SRO at the Northwest Mall, Houston:

Pete Lippincott challenges Tim Weissman - 1 pm

Phil Arnold challenges Jacob Weissman - 3:30 pm

Come out and see who wins...the bad guys or the good guys...

PLUS, for those interested, I will be hosting a personalized AH training clinic after the matches. If you want some very specific lessons geared toward your individual style, I will talk with you, watch you play, and give you critiques to improve your level.

Take care...

Tim Weissman

No Texans game this Sunday, so I should be able to make it.

Prediction:

Tim should have an easy time with Pete. I can see Pete getting close to winning a set, but Tim should come out in the end with a 4-0 victory.

Jacob and Phil should be a lot closer. Jacob will have a good coach in his corner. Each set will be close, but I favor Phil. 4-1

The Young Wolf (Tim) versus the Moose (Pete). I like it.

Then there is the Younger Wolf (Jacob) versus the primal primate Orangutan (Arnold. :) I like this one even more!!

Looking forward to hearing about the action!

Tim, great job on taking charge with sharing your knowledge with the clinic. Thank you for your contribution. I hope others in the future put on their own clinics too. :)

Sounds like an awesome day of Air Hockey! I'll certainly come out to watch!

A heads up to anyone scheduling matches at SRO during football season, you might want to check with the manager on duty just to verify there are no special events happening the day of your match. Football season is the "busy season" at SRO and they do host a lot of college football related events that result in the back section being unavailable.

Greg is the GM. Joe is typically on duty on Friday nights... and there is a new manager but his name slipped my mind.

If Jacob wants a better nickname than Young'er' Wolf, this summer I read an old western for light reading called Kid Wolf of Texas by Paul S. Powers. It's a story about Kid Wolf a young blond hair gunslinger that rides an amazing white horse and makes a living saving women and children, foiling bandits trying to steal from wagon trains and whooping up on bad guys.

Check it out, Kid Wolf may be different enough a nickname for Jacob and yet keeps the Wolf name moving forward.

Pete's match with me was much closer than the set/game count reveals. We played 7 games that went 7-6. I got 4 and he got 3. Two of those wins were games that I had to come back, being down 6-3 and 6-4.

Jacob's match with Phil was interesting, as Phil used his almost 40 years of Air Hockey experience to outwit the young upstart. Phil's cut-shot was the tale of the match, being the weapon of choice for Arnold. In a few games, Phil scored as many as 4 in a row.

Jacob found a nice cross-straight against Carolina, and this kept him in the match, used in conjunction with a searing wrist-cut off the circle drift. Jacob also used a mix of banks to deal with Phil's reactionary defense. In a few of the games Jacob won, Phil charged almost every shot, leaving a naked goal for the young Weissman to exploit.

In the end, Jacob fought hard until the very last point was scored, making me very proud of him.

And, Phil showed that he can still beat up on 16 year old prepubescent boys :) I joke I joke.

Great match guys.

Ahmm... I prefer "late" bloomer (:

But, in all seriousness, great match Phil! I truly appreciate how deep you made me dig, even when you were cutting me to oblivion. You got the best of me today, and played with unwordly passion and grit. But beware, I'll be back...

Good fight Jacob. Phil's a crafty vet. Hang in there!

As I stood by the Table before the match, I recalled the original Young Wolf, Tim, many years back who wrought havoc with me and the Old Guard. And, now, not content with his history of mayhem, the Wolf spawns his Image to repeat the cycle of violence on me and my brothers. And though I won this first encounter with his Seed like I won the first encounter with the Young Wolf, I know what is coming in time for me as I travel deeper into this Forest. But, friends,it is coming not just for me alone, but for you. And you. And, you.

Jacob's skills are magically improving month by month with no end in sight. His videos of just five months ago show him in coccoon compared to the Creature he has become.

In this match, I saw that if I relaxed my focus just a bit, I was liable to lose. He is just that good.

As I said to him when it was over, for me this is a victory in the Winter of my career. For Jacob, it is the beginning of the Spring............

"Prepubescent"? You wish. Isn't Jacob like 12 inches taller than you? :)

BTW when Wil Upchurch was 15 or 16 he was already beating me challenge matches, and I was in the top 3 in the world at the time.

Huh? I don't get it. When he was 16 and beating you matches, you were not that much older than him. That is dog bites a dog. What would be news is if Wil were 16 now and beating you a match at your age. Health and Human Services would have him in court for abuse of seniors. That would be dog biting the aged.

Yeah, Jacob is currently in the middle of puberty. His pediatrician said he has another couple of years to go...so, he might end up 24" taller than me Mark :)

As for you losing to Wil when he was a 15-16 year old boy, I agree that is very embarassing for you...

At least for Wil to finally beat me a set, he had to become a man!

That's one thing Phil and I have in common. We don't allow young boys to defeat us in AH. You will allow anyone to beat you!

Being in the presence of Paul Marshall for 20 years taught some of us the "take no prisoners" side of AH.

Thanks Tim!
Everyone who missed out, Tim was giving out great air hockey advice all afternoon to those who would listen. Thanks for making the challenge match a positive experience Tim.
