Davis defeats Q, 3 sets to 2 in a very close match - 16 games to 10!

We'll write more after this weekend.

Thanks Syed! Was a great match and I'll write up about it after watching Billy and Davis today. Since we weren't able to stream, wanted to see how fast I could turn out a match on our Vimeo page. I forgot to record set 2 but I linked the videos to the match here on AHW. It's a little slower through the embedding on AHW in HD than on Vimeo directly...probably bc of the widget I tried in order to have all sets in one album using one embed code.

I think our match speaks for itself. Q took me all the way to the limit, and I think we both got better for it. He is in great practice and has definitely improved since Nationals.

I expected him to come out a lot sharper than me in the first set, and it showed with him beating me 4-1. I reeled off a bunch of games in a row, and thought I was going to close it out 3 sets to 1. We traded games in the 4th set and he dominated me 7-2 in the 7th game to push it to the 5th set.

After he won the 1st game of set 5, I was anticipating losing the match to him. Fortunately, something clicked and I was fortunate to come out the winner in the last set.

Q's got a great all around game that just needs to be sharpened with experience against different players. I think I was playing well in sets 2-5, and for him to push me and win a set shows he has the potential to be top 5 next tournament. He and the IL crew don't show any signs of letting up with their practice, so they could easily become the dominant hub in the AH universe. Truly amazing what dedication to the sport can accomplish. Great match Q, I enjoyed it and good luck.

Wow! Q! Good job in this match. It really could have gone either way. Q was up 1 games to 0 in the final set and held a 2 points to 0 lead. At that moment, I thought Q was the favorite to win, but Davis dug in (he's has a knack for doing that) and dominated the next 4 games.

Q's defense and offense played well enough to win this match. The 3 key differences were:

-Davis' ability to adjust more quickly than Q. Davis was also better at realizing what shots were working and honing his attack.
- Q scored on himself a few times at very key points - Davis played very clean.
- And Davis played the big points better.

Davis got it right in that Q just needs more experience. He's only been playing 2 years. Yes, he's played a lot in those 2 years, but some things just take time. With a little bit more seasoning, Q will be roasting other masters.
