Make sure you go to the challenge page and go to the issue and view challenge section so we can keep that page up to date with all pending matches. I would do it for you but it would be best for everyone to get some practice using it

Congratulations to Brian A. for winning a tough match against August 4-2.
His climb back into the top 5 is well on his way.
I think Pete has declined to play Brian for the #6 spot, so Brian and I will play in 2 weeks.
Brian beat me 4-2 a year ago but I beat him 4-0 last time, but Brian is back in practice and playing very well.
It should be a good match. Looking forward to it.
Until then.... Take care........

If Pete has declined to play Brian, does that mean that he will be dropped from the rankings? Or is this a situation in which rank drop does not apply?

Pete did not decline to play me. He had agreed to play me, but he has a priority challenge to August first to fulfill. August made his challenge prior to our match, so he still has priority for the period ending February 29.
If Syed defeats me on Feb 11, I will challenge Pete for that period. If I defeat Syed, Pete is welcome to challenge me.

August played superbly. I was lucky to win. He ripped me up the first 2 sets with powerful left and right wall overs. Had he been able to sustain the consistency of those shots, he would have crushed me. As is, I was able to turn the match around in the third set and won both 3rd and 4th sets solidly 4-1, 4-1. The 5th set was key.
August went out to a 2-0 lead winning 2 close games. I managed to get the next 2 games 7-5 7-5. At this point the match was tied. It was the next game when I finally turned the corner. I eeked out a tough possession for possession game winning 7-5. August fought back and we ended up 6-6. I got possesion and fired a surprise quick right wall under off of the reverse diamond just off the right rail to take the set. That was key.
The 6th set started out looking like I would roll. We traded dominate games 7-4 me 7-3 Aug and 7-2 me. Then I started game 4 up 5-0. 2 points and I am up 3-1. But August tightened down something fierce and got 7 unanswered points to win the game 7-5 and even the game count to 2-2. He then proceeded to crack me 7-3 in game 5, and it was looking like a 7th set was on its way.
But then came the defense. The game we played ultra conservative possession for possession, and I managed to execute very well and shut down his attack and win 7-4. It was not 3-3, and I have match game.
The final game was another tough one. I don;t even remember what I shot. But my defense showed up, and my possession management was on the money. At 6-5, I went with what had carried me through the match, the diaginal drift hold release hard cut - and it worked.
Tough gritty match. I was lucky to get the win.

Thanks for Donovan and Maria for being gracious hosts as always. Thanks to Pete for commentating the match. Looking forward to hearing your analysis.
And thanks to my wonderful wife, Diane, for supporting me and reffing 4 sets. I won all 4 sets that she reffed. ;)

Brian:
August withdrew his challenge to Pete, so there is no priority there.

Brian played great today, I took a two set lead, but that did not slow him down. He keep coming back and my defense needs practice. We had nine seven to six games and fourteen seven to five games. Sounds like it was a close match but for me I felt I just got bet bad. He adjusted when he needed to and did a great job setting up his shots. I hope next time we play I give him a better game. Also thanks to Donovan for letting use his house and table. Thanks to Diane and Donovan for being our ref. Thanks to Maria and Pete for working the camera and computer so everyone could watch if they wanted.

Congrats Brian! Billy, I did not decline Brian I have a match with Ehab and Danny pending. Have not set a date for Brian as I was waiting to hear from Ehab and Danny. I am more than happy to play Brian but when he heard I was challenging Ehab and Danny he skipped me and went straight to Syed. In fact if you check the challenge match section at http://airhockeyworld.com/challengelist.asp You will see the two matches pending. I had a match from Brian in this section but it got pulled from statement before. If Brian would like to reinstate the challenge that is more than fine by me, but I am still waiting to hear from Ehab and Danny. Thanks

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure your challenges wouldn't offset a priority challenge to you. If it did, players could effectively "match dodge" by making numerous challenges. If Brian (or anyone else) challenges you, that match has to be played within the timeframe stated in the rules, regardless of your pending challenges.

Thanks Andrew, Yes that sounds correct and I have no issue with playing Brian it was his choice to skip playing me and challenge Syed. If he would rather play me first that's fine by me. I'm not out to dodge anyone. In fact I recall you challenged me too. If you would like please submit your challenge in the new challenge section as well. :)

With all the withdrawals and changes I can't follow who challenged who when, but:
The general rule is, your challenging UP has no effect on Priority challenges to you from BELOW. If someone has challenged you for March, and becomes your priority commitment for March, you have to fulfill that commitment irrespective of how many challenges UP you may issue for March, or play in March.

I spoke with Brian on the telephone, whether he wins against Syed or loses he and I will play a match. Hope that settles any dispute anyone is having. :)
