Congratulations to Pete for his upset over August 4 sets to 3 to gain the #5 ranking.

Apparently I underestimated your abilities.

Wow! Congrats Pete! That's a very impressive win.

I'd love to see you play Goran and/or Q next weekend when we're in town.

Congratulations and Mission Accomplished to Peter Lippincott for defeating August Para, taking his Number 5 World Ranking from him. August has shown signs of weakness in three matches during the past months: Nick G; Q, and now Peter the ShapeShifter.

Peter has been doing the Chicago Thing by practicing ah for many months now. This has happened "under the radar", since no one took him that seriously as a real threat. I got a dose of what Pete is capable of when I played him at the last International in Houston this summer. It was about my third match of the tournament. I, too, was looking past him, knowing I would do a Drive By on him. Three games later, my stomach was eaten up with raging acid, seeing that I was behind three games to Zero! Only by reaching down deep and playing each puck possession like facing execution was I able to take four games in a row and win. I knew something was emerging across the Table.

His game has major flaws, but what rescues these miscues are X factors that complexify his game. In Greek theater the characters wore masks, several different masks, depending on the role/shots they were delivering. Same with Peter. At no time do you know for sure what is the mask and what or who is Peter the Player. Meanwhile, behind the presentations is an intelligent plan being played by a talented and competitive athlete.

No doubt, August came to play Pete the SRO cabbage and started off with a big two set lead. But then another Peter, the emerging competitor, watching in the wings, came to the Table with several chess like adjustments.

Exterminate such a player early and quickly. You don't want a seven set match against a talented ShapeShifter.

Thanks Phil,
You pinned the tail on the donkey. You are really the assessor of this game and are a wonderful player and mentor to us newbies. See you in the tournament of champions.

Phil:

can you please clarify the challenge match rule on priority?

Does August have priority over a re-match or do I since I am next in line?

Thank you

Syed

Syed has priority.

4.6 The loser of a priority challenge match must wait until after the 15th of the second month following the match to re-challenge the winner.

Hey Goran,
I would be down for multiple mitic rated sets this weekend for the Chicago peeps. I have to give Seyed his shot first at my ranking, and I don't think that will happen this weekend for me, do to work/music constraints and I would be playing tired, so mitic would be the best I can give you and the rest of the Chicago invasion. Which again, is what I planned to do with or without rank in mind.
My schedule
Friday night I have a gig, but will stop by the tournament after my gig (which ends at 11pm) as long as the tournament is still running and would love to get some table time in then.
Soonest I could get there is 11:45pm-ish
Saturday anytime after noon as I have a gig that morning.
Sunday I have all day available
You tell me, I live close to SRO and can get there within 10 or so min or if people are at Donovan's or Brian's house I'm happy to make the drive for some table time.
