Randal and I played our challenge match this morning and I ended up winning 4-2 and therefore assume the #18 ranking. Match results are at http://airhockeyworld.com/match.asp?matchid=25327

Randal really came out strong and was hitting very crisp shots and playing solid defense. After losing the first 2 sets I was not very optimistic about my chances given how well Randal has been playing of late. I got ahead early in the 3rd set but after being up 3-1, Randal put together two 7-6 wins to tie it up at 3 and luckily I was able to pull off a win in the 7th game. I was able to get a 3-1 lead again in the 4th set but this time I was able to win the 5th game beating him that set 4-1. After the 4th set I think fatigue and maybe a little frustration began to set in for Randal. As he got tired, his shots were not as crisp and he seemed to be frustrated that he couldn't get the puck to do what he wanted. He started giving up more possessions later in the match and I was able to be patient and wait for my opportunities. Overall this was a good match that I feel really could have gone either way. thanks to Randal for playing me and Stuck and Nick for reffing.

Congratulations, Chris, for a really solid match. He deserves a lot of credit for hanging in there after the first couple sets, dialing in some shots, and winning four sets in a row.

I missed a big opportunity to go up 3 sets to 0. In the seventh game, after leading 3-1, I badly missed a shot and dropped it in my own goal. Chris came back to win the game/set, so instead of being up by three sets, I was only up one, and that turning point gave Chris a lot of confidence.

My two matches with Chris (and recent tournament in Houston) make it really clear that I have to find a way to not only practice more on the table, but perhaps more importantly, improve my overall conditioning level. I started out very sharp, hitting almost everything on target, but hit the wall physically after the first couple sets and the quality of my shots fell off dramatically. Inaccurate shots and sloppy rebounding lead to turnovers, and Chris was hitting at least 4 shots to my 1 for long stretches of the sets he won. My defense was good enough that most points were still a fairly long battle, with the table shutting off a lot, but against such a good, experienced player, I couldn't weather giving up so many possessions.

Thanks, Nick and Stucky for reffing.
