I challenge Dan Meyer for his rating points, and his tournament finish, I mean USAA ranking.

Challenge accepted.
We'll work out the details, but assume a 4 of 7 and at UIC.

Good luck to both of you sounds like it will be a great match. Also when you challenge you now get their usaa ranking and their rating points. When did this happen? I knew you get their usaa ranking. I thought you only got some points not everything they have. If that is true that is good that you get both. Bad thing the one being challenge only gets to keep his ranking and get a few points like me today. Other then that good luck to both you.

Thank you August and congrats on your recent challenge match wins. Rating points have always been on the line for challenge matches. Challenge matches are a true test of air hockey skill. They help make the rankings and ratings more accurate. Too bad for rankings we reset them after every tournament, even if it was only 3 months later. Not to worry, the rating committee came up with a hybrid system that takes the good from the ranking system. More information will come soon.

Last night Goran Mitic (#18) defeated Dan Meyer (#13) in a challenge match that lasted 7 sets:
http://airhockeyworld.com/match.asp?matchid=24874
Dan lost the first game after being up 6-4. For the remainder of that set, and the next 2 sets that followed, Dan was pressing to catch up. Dan was playing at Goran's tempo, charging relentlessly, hitting meaningless forehands, and Goran was winning the possession battle. Goran's style naturally gives up the puck a lot, but allows for him to make some spectacular shots on offense. However, if Goran has fewer turnovers than his opponent, his opponent is in big trouble.
Goran won the first 3 sets with many points coming by the way of a cross-straight from right-of-center. Going into the forth set, it looked like Dan had resigned himself to a 4-0 defeat, but once the pressure of the match had lightened, Dan was able to calm down on defense, and limit his turnovers. These adjustments helped Dan roll over Goran for 3 sets. Dan had good variety: Both straights, right-wall-overs, and his go-to shot was a pump fake followed by a fast right-wall-under.
In the final set, Goran's renewed sense of urgency, and newly found left-wall-over, helped him muscle his way to a victory. In the last game, Dan was up 6-5, and it looked like we were headed to a thrilling ending, but Goran staged a nice mini-comeback and proved that he's not willing to let the new Chicago players upstage him just yet.
Next up Goran vs. Q. This should be a good one!

Wow! 4-3, 20-19, 225-224, and 5.77-5.74. Doesn't get much closer than that. Was it recorded?
