Way to go Donovan... bring that ranking back home intact! From the scores above, it looks like it was a hard fought battle. Let's hear the gory details!

Looks like they're going into a 7th set. Looking at the rating change thus far, Donovan is +1 point from where they started. They're just about 50/50 for the points from this set and the complete match calculation so will be a big 60 (approx.) point increase to the victor.

Thanks to Nick for hosting and Chris for great practice. Between the 4th and 5th sets I had to take the full 15 to ice my wrist. I have a bad habit of pulling back too hard for unders and sometimes can mess up my wrist. This is the worst it has ever been. At one point I was not sure I could continue and just wanted Chris to end it. Chris was noticeably tired and just could not hit the corners. I was too tired and in too much pain to move and shocking my defense was awesome! I just did not move and waited for the puck to hit my mallet. Once it did I would react and shot a cut. The cut was gold and I mixed in a few RWU to open it up. Seeing Chris tired actually gave me some energy. I had to put mind over matter and just try to block out the pain. I got this crazy 4th wind and just wanted to keep playing until my arm fell off. It is very painful to even type this. I am a bit nervous that I messed something up pretty bad. I will keep icing it and hope I can play Thursday for #19. But it feels like that might not happen. Thanks for all the text after the match.

Man.. I wish I could have been there. 7 set challenge matches are very exciting.

Don - your game has really improved. It looks like you've made some great adjustments since your visit in Chicago.

Honestly, I have seen both guys play better. The match was kind of sloppy, but very intense and exciting to watch. Hopefully Donovan's wrist is feeling better today, I am very curious to see what would happen between him and Randal.

First of all, I would like to thank Donovan for agreeing to play me a match on the road. He was under no obligation to play me in Colorado but he did so anyways. I'd also like to thank Nick for hosting and reffing the match even though based on past history this match was just destined to go 7 sets. I'd have to agree with Nick that it definitely wasn't the prettiest match, especially later on in the match. I give Donovan tons of credit for playing through pain and finding a way to gut it out to get the victory, especially after he was down 3-2. I really felt that I was fortunate to hang in for this match and push it to the end. After Donovan won the third set he started the 4rd set by coming back to beat me after I was up 6-2 and then followed that game up with a 7-1 whipping. At that point I could feel the match slipping away and felt pretty defeated. Somehow however I found a way to take the next 4 games and even up the set count. In the 5th set Donovan just lost his focus and intensity for a set. Maybe it was because he allowed me to come back and win 4 straight in the previous set but he definitely had lost some steam. In the 6th set Donovan could barely move on defense and was pretty much parked in the center of the goal. Unfortunately I could not capitalize on this because my accuracy at this point had been lost due to fatigue. In the last set I think Donovan just knew that at this point he had to go the distance. He found just enough energy to boost him past me and seal the deal. Congrats again to Donovan for a hard fought victory. While I didn't really "learn" anything new technique-wise from the match, this match will definitely push me to practice more and get into better shape. I felt like I knew what I wanted to do during the match but just could find a way to execute.
