|I just caught up on some ratings sets and noticed that this Geoff Oidtman kid just beat Goran in their last two challenge sets. I've seen this kid play, and there is no mistaking his competitiveness. Plus, he has that look in his eye where he's not getting too frustrated with things, he just files it away to learn from it. Proper demeanor makes it easier to advance. If you get so dismayed with losses or when things don't go your way, it only creates more that you have to overcome.
I think with a few more years of seasoning, this kid could be a future master. Unfortunately, he's not competing weekly against Masters, so that will delay his development. Someone like Travis Luscombe is competing weekly against wave upon wave of Master and Grand Master talent. If you are able to develop against that type of talent, it's only a matter of time before you break thru.
Best of luck to Geoff, he would probably greatly benefit from studying game film of the top players to try to figure out how to get to the next level, otherwise, he will only get to see a glance of their games once or twice a year.
