|To have a brighter future.
I admit it. I've done what 8 billion people have done throughout the course of mankind. I had some success and thought I had it all figured out. This was around 2007, after winning the World Championship. Then I got body slammed back down to earth by Wil and Billy at the IL State, and then again by Wil and Tim at the US Open. Then a really bad tournament for me at the 2008 WC. These losses have really helped me realize that there is a very thin line between winning and losing at the highest level. If you don't bring your A game and your opponent is on, there is a great chance of losing.
Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to make sure that I bring my best game to every tournament. It's not a hard question to figure out. If you practice perfection on the table, once you step up to the table in a pressure situation, it will be second nature. When you're not in good practice, handling the pressure, having the natural instinct on what to do, how to react, isn't second nature. Finding the time to test out my skill on competition is tough in my area. That's probably the toughest obstacle at the moment.
Why am I feeling good at the moment? Because I don't really remember when I won last year, and that's a good thing. I want to go in hungry, feeling like the underdog. I think I need to feel this edge to bring out the best in my game. I am hoping not to make the same mistakes. Losing has really honed my game, and made it razor sharp on offense at the moment. I still need to find my defense, and continue to get better at it. Defense wins championships.
I want to win many championships, but the key will be for me to focus on one game, one point at a time to get there.
See you across the table.
